Actress Takes a Pass on Supporting PETA

asin-thottumkal2Bollywood actress Asin Thottumkal has turned down an offer from People for the Ethical Treatment Animals (PETA) to be their latest celebrity spokesperson to promote vegetarianism.

She said she is a hardcore non-vegetarian and, therefore, it would be unfair to accept the offer.

“After I entered the film industry, I restricted my non-veg diet to fish and chicken. I can’t, however, remain without non-veg food even for a single day. Therefore, it won’t be proper for me to involve myself in the campaign against non-vegetarian food,” said Asin.

Although not as well known in the U.S. the actress from India is a super star in India and neighboring countries where she most recently starred in “Ghajini.”

From time to time, PETA ropes in celebrities and puts them in the forefront of its campaign to popularize vegetarian food habits, despite ample evidence that meat is a critical source of vitamins and minerals and a cornerstone of a balanced diet. Nice to see someone in the public spotlight display this kind of integrity.
