Senator Mike Johanns Receives NCGA President’s Award
Posted: July 16, 2009
The National Corn Growers Association, Corn Congress, has been underway this week in Washington, DC. This annual event provides corn grower leaders an opportunity to elect some new board members, lobby their elected officials and also present an award.
National Corn Growers Association President Bob Dickey today presented the President’s Award to Senator Mike Johanns (R-Neb.) during NCGA’s Corn Congress events in Washington, D.C. The President’s Award is given annually to a leader who has worked to advance issues important to corn growers and agriculture.
“When deciding who should receive this award, Senator Johanns came to mind right away,” Dickey said. “Mike Johanns has shown continued leadership and support for the agriculture industry during his years as governor of Nebraska and as secretary of agriculture. He now represents the state of Nebraska as a U.S. senator and we look forward to working with him and his staff on issues important to our members.”
“It is a tremendous honor to receive this award from such an important industry, especially as a representative of the Cornhusker State,” Senator Johanns said. “Our corn growers are at the heart of American agriculture and play an integral part in feeding the country and the world. I grew up on a farm and have long appreciated the hard work and contributions of American farmers, and I will continue to promote and protect your interests as Senator.”
