Here’s an idea. Instead of wasting all our precious resources making corn into ethanol to fuel our cars, just burn it to make electricity and power electric cars instead.
According to by Thomas Blakeslee of the Clearlight Foundation writing in an article for Renewable Energy World, “If we take that same acre of corn and burn it to make electricity to charge an electric car, we will be able to drive the car 22 times as far! About 117,096 miles per year!”
He bases that calculation on generating the corn to electricity by means of 85% efficient Combined Heat and Power (CHP) biomass power plants and driving Tesla electric cars that get 4 mi/kWh.
Nice idea. Probably will never happen – but nice idea, anyway.

Course we could even back that up one more step. Why not just use the natural gas to make electricity to power electric cars instead?
