Farm Broadcasters Deserve a Resounding Thank You

NAFB 044

This week an annual ritual took place which has farm broadcasters from across the nation flocking to Kansas City, MO for their annual meeting; professional development and one might even say therapeutic bonding.

Over the last 20 years the number of media who concentrate on covering the business of food, fuel and farming has dwindled, thus making them an even more critical link in the gulf that separates family farmers from consumers.

In an age when most consumers don’t even think family farmers exist anymore and few have any grasp of how the products that spring from our farms and ranches are produced, these knowledgeable media mavens have tackled a monumental task and do so in noble fashion. They strive every day to cut through the mountains of information consumers are assaulted with and shine a bright light on how productive and progressive modern farming has become.

Most carry this torch despite long hours, knowing they could make more money by covering another topic or industry, or doing another job. And many rarely hear thank you enough from their bosses or peers or worst yet from the farmers who need them badly.

So as we move forward through this season of thanks please do not let an opportunity pass to tell these media warriors job well done and keep up the fight.
