Bystrom -
The pope and the governor of an agricultural state are apples and oranges. We are talking about a proclamation supporting an agenda that would, if they had their way, totally eliminate animal agriculture - including your grass-fed beef cattle. You still have to kill them and that is "violent."
If you are Catholic you should know the reasoning behind meatless Fridays during Lent. It is a form of identification with the suffering of Christ and has NO connection at all with a vegetarian or vegan diet.
Agriculture in general has good reason to fear these people. With the support of government they could make raising food as we know it today very difficult, if not impossible. You should be concerned as well.

Let the Governor and her Peeps have her day. If you guys were consistent you'd be protesting the pope for first friday meat outs and 4 fridays in a row of no of no meat.

I raise cattle, on grass and sell them direct to the consumer, and have'em cut at a local locker.

I have no fear of these people...why should you?

Another attack of the food police. Wish they would stop telling us what to eat, especially when it's a component of a healthy diet.

Don -
Absolutely. The gov's office is trying to hide behind saying they get so many of these requests for proclamations that it's no big deal. It is a big deal. I am quite sure that if Michigan Right to Life requested a proclamation for Michigan Celebrate Life Day that it would be rejected. We are not talking about a policy issue here - a proclamation by the governor's office amounts to an endorsement. That should not happen.

Cindy -- If as you say "state and federal government officials have no business doing so." then that would apply to them promoting a meat eating lifestyle too?

This just goes along with what I witnessed at the "Concentration in Agriculture Hearing" in Ankeny Iowa. The future these folks have does not have production agriculture in it. Not sure what they will eat but it will not be produced by us. We ABSOLUTELY have to become proactive in this debate or the future that these people and the current administration have will not include commercial agriculture.
